Reinforce essential safety information whilst improving workplace aesthetics

Reinforce essential safety information whilst improving workplace aesthetics

As a facilities management professional, you will understand the importance and protective benefits of clear and well displayed health & safety information within the workplace. All too often we find examples of individual pieces of safety equipment mounted to the wall with makeshift signage and no information on who the safety representatives are, or where they can be located.
Not only is this aesthetically unpleasant, it also fails to reinforce safety messaging or provide clear guidance in case of an emergency.
Safety stations are designed specifically to allow for essential equipment and safety information to be effectively wall mounted in one accessible place. Where applicable, write on panels are available, making the changeover of vital information such as representative details easy.

Stations for different applications
Leading signage manufacturer, SafetySigns4Less.co.uk is continually researching and developing products that increase safety in the workplace, and its safety stations are no exception. The company’s already vast range of safety stations cover a multitude of applications including fire safety, first aid, hand hygiene, PPE guidance and most recently, storage of personal protective equipment.
Following extensive workplace research, the team at SafetySigns4Less has cleverly arranged each safety station to provide concise safety information and easy to use compliant safety equipment, as well as ensuring the design will enhance the professional feel of any workplace.

New personal protective equipment storage stations
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is prevalent in almost all workplaces and by law must be fit for purpose, well maintained and stored properly. The latest range of PPE safety stations from SafetySigns4Less allows for easy storage of personal protective equipment, ensuring it remains off the floor, free of dirt and always available for use. No longer will fire marshals have to store high vis vests on the back of chairs, or visitors to the workshop hunt around for safety goggles, simply install a station at the point of need for easy retrieval and safe storage of your PPE.

Gradus Wall Protection future-proofs prestigious cancer treatment centre

Gradus Wall Protection future-proofs prestigious cancer treatment centre

Contract interior specialist Gradus has supplied and installed a range of bespoke wall protection solutions at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust’s ground-breaking new Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Centre, providing it with invisible protection to future-proof it against everyday damage for years to come.
The Wall Protection products have been fitted throughout the state-of-the-art £125m centre in Manchester, the first facility to offer high-energy NHS proton beam therapy in the UK. They were provided as part of Gradus’s supply-and-fit service, which sees the company work closely with its customers to design, manufacture and install the best possible solution for their needs.
The Christie was seeking a solution that would provide it with all the benefits of wall protection in terms of reducing lifecycle costs, while being as ‘invisible’ as possible, creating a less institutional and more relaxing environment for its patients. To make this vision a reality, Gradus worked closely with the hospital throughout the process.
In cooperation with The Christie and the centre’s main building contractor, Gradus supplied and installed its SureProtect Pure® hygienic wall cladding in White and Iceberg shades. Specially designed to create an impermeable barrier to moisture and bacteria, SureProtect Pure is the perfect solution for healthcare environments. Its smooth, easy-to-clean surface makes it especially hygienic and ensures it meets ‘Health Building Note 00-09: Infection control in the built environment’.
In various areas of the five-storey site, Gradus also fitted a range of other Wall Protection products: full-height 90° Corner Guards to protect vulnerable corners; 200mm Wall Guards to protect the walls; and Bed Head Protectors behind the beds to protect the vital medical equipment used to support patients. All were supplied in Alum or Chalk colours to blend into the background and complement the overall design of the facility, ensuring a well-protected and aesthetically pleasing building.
In addition, in areas that will be used by potentially vulnerable patients, Gradus installed its Combination Rails – handrails that combine with wall guard elements to offer both support and protection. In line with BS 8300-2:2018 and Approved Document M, the handrails were supplied in Shale colour to offer a 30 points LRV difference from the wall to which it is attached, ensuring suitable contrast for support and direction.
“The Christie were extremely pleased with the solutions we installed for them, and the way that some blend in with the environment while others stand out for better inclusivity,” comments Chris Jackson, Wall Protection Sales Manager at Gradus. “Having worked with The Christie before, we were thrilled to continue our relationship on this prestigious and rigorous ProCure 21+ project, which will mean that cancer patients can benefit from advanced treatment today, tomorrow and well into the future.
“The project was an excellent example of our supply-and-fit service, showing how we work closely with clients and supply chain partners to deliver the project on time and exactly to specification.”

Kentec protects China to Yorkshire Power Station project

Kentec protects China to Yorkshire Power Station project

A Sigma XT extinguishing panel and accessories manufactured by Kentec, a life safety control systems manufacturer, are protecting a power storage station built in Hefei in China, and brought over to Yorkshire, in Northern England.
Guangzhou Wanzhen Information Technology Co. Ltd completed the installation and commissioning of the project for Sungrow Power in Hefei earlier this year, after which it was transported to Yorkshire, where the storage container was fixed to the site. The storage station forms part of Sungrow’s Photovoltaic solar energy project.
From construction to completion, the project was completed in just four months, with the methodology now being used as a blue-print across the power construction industry.
The installation included a Sigma XT Extinguishant panel, status unit, abort switch and warning signs. A spokesperson for Guangzhou Wanzhen Information Technology Co. Ltd says the Sigma range is ideal for high risk sites such as power stations:
“Kentec’s Sigma range is highly reliable and renowned throughout the industry for its robust build quality. We were therefore very happy to specify the system for this critical project.”
Three initiation circuits are included as standard with the Sigma XT releasing panel. This means release can be configured to activate from any combination of detection zone inputs to enable specific and controlled activations, thus protecting a site’s critical equipment from unnecessary extinguishant release damage.
Kevin Swann, Managing Director of Kentec, says the Sigma XT has been built with the end user and installer in mind: “A large LED display provides a highly-intuitive interface for end users to configure systems to suit their specific sites,” he explains. “And with all the electronics mounted on a single, easily removable steel plate, the panels are both robust and easy to install.”
The LED display informs on the time remaining until release for added user safety. This countdown timer can be duplicated on up to seven status units per panel, to provide localised indication of system status. Any number of abort switches can be connected to the abort terminal, providing complete convenience of system design.
